Why Choose AMS Frame Protection? A Deep Dive into Thickness, Quality, and How We Compare to RideWrap & Lizard Skins

At All Mountain Style (AMS), we believe in building products that earn your trust on the trail. not just through hype, but through innovation, performance, and real-world results.

Recently, a rider named Mike sent us a very direct (and totally fair) message:

1) How thick is your frame protection wrap in mils?
2) Why should I purchase your frame protection vs. products from RideWrap or Lizard Skins?

Let’s dive into both of these questions — not just for Mike, but for anyone curious about how AMS stacks up in the world of frame protection.

1. How Thick is AMS Frame Protection?

Our frame protection kits are made from a proprietary high-impact polymer material that’s 380 microns thick, or approximately 15 mils.

What does that mean? 1 mil = 0.001 inch, so 15 mils = 0.015 inches (or 0.38mm). That’s thicker than most frame guards on the market. And for good reason:

  • Better impact absorption
  • Longer-lasting durability
  • Superior resistance to yellowing, tearing, or peeling

More protection where you need it most, without adding unnecessary bulk.

2. Why Choose AMS vs. RideWrap or Lizard Skins?

There are three key reasons why riders worldwide choose AMS:

  1. Material performance
  2. Design & style
  3. User-friendly installation

Material & Durability

  • AMS: 15 mil polymer:  thick, flexible, UV-resistant, and built for real trail conditions.
  • RideWrap: TPU-based, around 10 mils thick. Offers full-frame wraps but thinner and more delicate.
  • Lizard Skins: Polyurethane patches, thinner (~8–10 mils) and more prone to wear over time.

Simply: AMS is a Frame Protection, not a vinyl.

Design Aesthetic

AMS is known for blending function and style. Our kits come in:

  • Clear, transparent options
  • Clean graphic designs like Camo, Tribal, and Maze
  • Collaborations with brands like Red Bull
  • Pre-cut zones tailored for MTB frames

No ugly patches. Just great-looking protection.

Installation

  • AMS: No pro tools needed. Apply and ride.
  • RideWrap: Full installs can be tricky and time-consuming. Mostly done by mechanics with experience.
  • Lizard Skins: Easy but limited to small patches.

Bottom line: AMS is designed to be rider-friendly.

Sustainability & Local Production

Our kits are designed and manufactured in Barcelona, not mass-produced overseas. We prioritize:

  • Local sourcing
  • Minimal packaging
  • Long-lasting product design to reduce waste

We ride the same trails you do  and we want to protect them too.
