Road bar tape shapes the way a bike feels, from the first sprint to the final kilometres of a long ride. AMS offers three distinct options for drop bars, so you can choose your preferred balance of feedback, grip and cushioning rather than buying by colour alone.

Find your road bar tape

  • Tessel 1.8 mm — a close, direct feel for racing, intervals and fast road riding. The slim build retains some vibration damping from its gel-based backing.
  • Tessel 2.5 mm — precise, textured grip with added comfort for training, weekend road rides and variable tarmac.
  • Sterrato 2.5 mm — a tackier surface and a comfort-focused feel for rough roads, long distances and mixed terrain.

Grip, thickness and installation feel

Tessel uses a tessellated PU surface over EVA with non-adhesive gel-based backing. The 1.8 mm version feels approximately 2.3 mm when wrapped; the 2.5 mm version feels approximately 3.0 mm, depending on stretch and overlap. Sterrato combines PU, EVA and shock-absorbing gel, with a 2.5 mm build and an approximately 3.0 mm cushioning feel.

Which thickness is best for road riding?

Choose 1.8 mm if direct feedback matters most. Choose 2.5 mm if you prioritise comfort on longer rides. Surface texture matters too: Tessel favours a structured, precise feel; Sterrato offers a tackier touch.
