What does a frame guard actually protect?

A frame guard protects paint and frame surfaces from scuffs, cable rub, abrasion, and minor impacts. It reduces cosmetic damage on down tube, top tube, and stays, helping preserve resale value.

Do I really need frame protection on a new bike?

Yes, applying protection early prevents the first scratches and slows wear in high-contact zones. It’s much cheaper than repainting or replacing damaged parts. And will keep the reselling value higher.

What’s the difference between Basic, Extra, Full, and Total kits?

The kits scale coverage area: Basic covers essentials; Extra adds more panels; Full extends to additional tubes/stays; Total maximizes coverage for aggressive riding or rough terrain.

Clear vs. graphic designsdo, es it change the look of my bike?

Clear preserves the original paint; graphics add style and differentiation. Both options are designed to blend cleanly once installed.

Will a frame guard stop rock strikes?

It reduces minor impact damage, but it’s not an armor plate against hard rock strikes even though we have seen pretty big hits without even a minor scratch on the frame.

Does protection affect bike weight or handling?

The added weight is minimal and unnoticeable during normal riding. Most riders value the protection and peace of mind far more than the grams added. Yet we specify the weight of each of our protections.

Are AMS frame guards universal for MTB, gravel, and road?

Yes, kits are universal and trimmable to fit most MTB, gravel, and road frames. You can slightly reposition or trim panels for an exact fit.

Will it fit e-MTB frames?

Yes, choose broader coverage (Full/Total) for oversized tubes and extra wear areas common on e-MTB frames. Or simply the e-bike model.

Is it safe on carbon, aluminum, steel, and titanium?

Yes, the adhesive is designed for common bike finishes. Always clean and degrease before installing for best bonding. We recommend cleaning with alcohol.

Can I use it on matte or gloss paint?

Yes. On matte, clean carefully to avoid polishing marks; on gloss, avoid harsh solvents that could haze the clear coat.

Aero shapes and complex curves, any tips?

Warm panels gently and apply tension around curves. Use multiple smaller pieces rather than forcing one large panel over tight bends.

How do I install without bubbles or lifting edges?

Thorough prep is the secret: clean, degrease, align dry, then apply with firm pressure. A bit of gentle heat helps conform around curves and seal edges.

What surface prep is recommended?

Wash, dry, then wipe with isopropyl alcohol (lint-free cloth). Make sure the area is dust-free and fully dry before application.

What temperature works best for installation?

Room temperature is ideal. If it’s cold, warm the frame and the panels slightly so the adhesive flows and bonds evenly.

Can I peel and reapply if I misalign a piece?

You can carefully lift and reposition shortly after placement. Avoid stretching the panel; re-press edges firmly after final alignment.

How do I remove the protection without residue?

Warm the panel with a hair dryer and peel slowly. Any light residue can be cleaned with citrus-based adhesive remover or isopropyl alcohol.

How do I clean the bike after installation?

Use mild bike soap and water. Avoid strong solvents or high-pressure spray directly at panel edges.

Which areas does each kit cover by default?

Basic covers high-risk spots (e.g., down tube); Extra adds more panels; Full extends to top tube and stays; Total provides max coverage front to rear.

Are panels pre-cut or do I have to trim?

Panels are pre-cut for common zones and can be trimmed for custom fit.

Do kits include squeegee or cleaning wipes?

No, we don’t include squeegee or cleaning wipes.

How long does a kit last?

With proper prep and care, panels are designed for long-term use across seasons and varied conditions. They can outlast the rest of your bike components.

What material are the panels made of?

Panels use a durable, abrasion-resistant polymer with strong adhesive—engineered for cycling environments.

What does “honeycomb” texture do?

The textured construction helps disperse scuffs and light impacts while maintaining flexibility for curved tubes. It’s also lighter.

How thick are the panels?

Panels are thick enough to protect from typical scuffs and trail debris, without feeling bulky on the frame.

Will the material yellow or fade in the sun?

Materials are designed to resist UV fade. Keep the bike clean and avoid harsh chemicals to maximize clarity and colorfastness.

Is the adhesive paint-safe?

Yes, when applied to sound factory finishes and removed with heat, the adhesive is paint-friendly.

Clear or graphics, how do I decide?

A. Choose clear to showcase paint or graphics to personalize your bike. Both protect equally; it’s about the look you want.

Do graphics fade or scratch off?

Graphics are embedded and designed for outdoor use. Our graphics are on the inside, so shielded by the protective material.

Can I mix clear and graphic panels?

Yes, many riders use clear on large areas and graphics on highlights for a balanced look.

Are there limited editions or collabs?

Collections rotate; limited designs drop periodically. Check the product pages for current releases.

Frame protection for mountain bikes, gravel bikes and road bikes

Here you will find everything you need to protect your bike frame and keep it looking like new for longer. There are frame keeper kits available to protect all susceptible areas of your bike starting with basic protection kits all the way to the total protection kits which will cover all areas of your frame and your fork.

AMS Honeycomb frame protection stickers

We offer precut stickers that firmly adhere to your frame and are easy to install.  There is no need to cut tape rolls or go through a lengthy process of wrapping your frame and then letting the stickers set it in. The mountain bike skins or frame saver are made for universal fitting and the precut shapes easily adapt to your frame even on difficult curves.

The stickers are made of a high-quality adhesive PVC that has a unique look and feel and will withstand impact and cable rubbing. Pick among many cool graphics and designs that will improve the look of your bike frame protection while adding a personal touch to it. Or if you prefer, there are also clear bike frame protection kits for a lesser visual impact.

Why use AMS frame guards to protect your bike

All mountain bikes are constantly exposed to rough conditions including dirt, mud, and other debris which may scratch or damage the bike’s frame. Also, mountain bikes are relatively expensive, so it's in our best interest to protect our investment.

We recommend using mtb frame protection stickers from day one,  over wrap or tape to keep your bike frame scratch free, especially if you are going to ride on rough terrains, gravel roads, and trails that may deteriorate your frame. A frame keeper is the way to go!
